Design & Construct
Morphos was engaged by Serviced Offices International (SOI) to design their new base at 465 Victoria Ave Chatswood. The company, well-established as a boutique provider of serviced offices, co-working space and meeting room hire, had already seen success at their Sydney CBD premises and was looking to expand their operations into a new market, needing a point of difference for their Chatswood site.
The floor-space, approximately 983 sqm, was bathed in sunlight with windows on all sides of the building. Our brief was very clear; to maximise the natural light and capitalise on the floor space. Given the recent movement in alternative working styles, such as co-working and collaboration, we were required to provide a range of office solutions that would support SOI’s varied client base. Our designer, Merey, had the challenging task of creating a high number of enclosed work spaces to suit the accommodation requirements of SOI’s clients, whilst still allowing the natural light to penetrate the inner areas of the tenancy, as well as reducing unwanted corridor space.
Glazing, instead of plasterboard helped to facilitate light transference, and where possible, clerestory windows were installed to allow light to filter into internal areas whilst still maintaining privacy.
Being a new location, there was a need for a fresh idea on design and concept – bright and colourful – something to set this space apart from what was on the market. Our team worked to develop a concept that would integrate harmoniously with the existing Kitchen as well as some reused loose furniture.
We redefined the front of house area in order to create a Reception that was open and accommodating to the wide lift lobby, but didn’t take up unnecessary floor-space. Feature finishes like wall paneling, pendant lights and a wing-inspired Reception desk mean this space makes an impression. The incorporation of plants within copper planters was a simple but effective way to bring greenery and life into the space, with a little touch of luxe.
The overall feeling is one of an energetic workplace where smaller businesses can run in an efficient and effective way, inspired by the space around them.
