Mind Plasticity are a rehabilitation team focusing on mental health, physical wellbeing and offering individually tailored programs to their clients from a range of skilled therapists. In December 2016, they relocated from their central Sydney office to a bigger space in Surry Hills and we were enlisted to create an environment that suited their offering.
With a holistic and down to earth approach to the care of their patients their space needed to also reflect an authentic and calm aesthetic, where new visitors felt secure, welcome and warm.
To achieve this a strong presence of tactile elements including soft tan leather couches within each suite, light laminates and neutral timbers were installed to form the base of the fit out. These soft touches contrast beautifully with the highly polished concrete floors. Subtle details such as beige leather handles on all the custom joinery were also added to create a sense of continuity throughout the space and to ensure the calming theme was consistent.
The front of house reception desk features inbuilt planters, the incorporation of plants into the joinery was to enhance the serenity of the space. Plants are often used in office spaces to promote wellbeing and performance and for Mind Plasticity this fit their brand perfectly.
With limited natural light within the space, white powder coated framing was utilised to brighten the space and create a minimalistic character to the hallway and office fronts. White also helps to make the space appear larger, an important feature to combat the lack of natural light.
To create a sense of privacy, soft, sheer curtains were utilised achieving an intimate, homely and comfortable space. This is imperative for the success of achieving a calming and therapeutic space when treating patients.
As a contrast to the soft furnishing and finishes, large, statement art pieces were mounted, creating impact on arrival and providing further interest and detail moving through the office and hallway. These artworks were then greater enhanced through the installation of linear white tube lighting.
The overall space is one of serenity and calm, where visitors feel at ease
